The Montessori School of the Angels is an independent, private, Roman Catholic, non-discriminatory school for children from preschool through middle school. We are dedicated to the belief that education must meet the needs of the whole child – spirit, mind and body. The child has an innate desire to learn, and will learn given the proper environment based on the premise that the first avenues to the intellect are the senses.
We aim to help children develop to the fullness of their individual potential. This is achieved through the years by developing independence, concentration and ultimately the inner discipline that sets them free. The Montessori teachers are a link between the child and the environment, observing the child’s needs and guiding them, but never pressuring them or imposing their own will or ideas.
Our school has a very different set of priorities than traditional schools. Montessori students tend to become self-confident, independent thinkers who learn because they are interested in the world and enthusiastic about life, not simply to get a good grade. Our school also seeks to develop culturally literate children and nurture their fragile sparks of curiosity, creativity, and intelligence.
Montessori is a fundamental belief that a child learns best within a social environment which supports each individual’s unique development. Children are to be respected as different from adults and as individuals who are different from one another. Children create through purposeful activity and possess unusual sensitivity and mental powers for absorbing and learning from their environment, which includes people as well as materials.
This approach to teaching is based on respect for the child with an aim to help the child help himself or herself to acquire the characteristics necessary to become a happy, mature and contributing adult.
